The recognised qualifications for those who wish to work become refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump professionals are awarded by City & Guilds, based on the official national occupational standards produced by SummitSkill in association with industry. The qualfications were revised in 2011 and the new schemes are as shown below:

If you are interested in becoming a qualified refrigeration engineer or starting off in the industry you should contact your nearest training provider for details of the courses on offer and local employers.
NOTE: It is a legal requirement for anyone working on equipment containing or designed to contain F Gas or ODS refrigerants to hold a specialist certificate and employers must also gain company certification. See the section on F Gas Requirements for more information.
